Skarphéðinn Þráinsson (SKARPI)

I joined the Highlands of Iceland Drone Photo Workshop in late Sep 2023. Our guide Skarpi, who is also the owner of Arctic Exposure, is an excellent guide with in-depth knowledge in photography and specifically drone photography. I really appreciate him sharing his expertise in drone photography and landscape photography in general. He made me feel more confident in flying my drone in the Icelandic weather, so I can take time to compose the image and get the results I really wanted.

I participated in two drone workshops with Skarpi in 2024. He is knowledgable, well organized, works well with groups as a leader and is a good instructor on drone photography. Overall the tour was excellent. I would not hesitate to recommend Arctic Exposures and Skarpi to others. I hope to do additional tours with them in the future.

Skarpi was a true pleasure - great humor, lots of local information and stories and just extremely pleasant to be around. The trip was very well organized, and Skarpi adjusted as we went along due to weather and route - something you can only do, when you are experienced and know your stuff. Also really liked that everything including food was paid for up front.

Skarpi was great and always came thru for us with new adventures even with very “ challenging “ weather.

I just got back from a wonderful week-long December 2nd 2022 photo workshop with Skarpi and Arctic Exposure along the southern Iceland coast in search of Aurora, ice caves, waterfalls, glaciers, icebergs and much more. I enjoyed the small-group size which allowed us to go places and give us the flexibility to adjust plans where larger operators wouldn't be able to do nearly as easily. The accommodations were great and the food was top-notch. Skarpi kept us plenty busy on this tour and we fully maximized the daylight hours for sunrise/sunset shots, and kept us engaged through the night searching for aurora which we found on several occasions. I came away with over 2300 shots from the trip and will be enjoying post-processing these for the next month at least. The memories will definitely last a lifetime. I wholeheartedly recommend Arctic Exposure for serious photographers. You won't be disappointed.

That was a wonderful experience that far exceeded my expectations. Skarpi went above and beyond to find us photo locations in spite of some occasionally brutal weather and always provided help when we asked for it or if we just looked like we needed it. The tour far exceeded my expectations. And I know that we probably saw some amazing locations that most tourists aren't likely to see (or at least they won't take the time to stop and photograph). Definitely 5 stars out of 5! I hated to see the tour end (although I was certainly happy to get home where it was far less windy and much warmer). Thanks again for an experience that I will never forget along with thousands of beautiful pictures to remind me of it.

Very happy with my experience! Skarpi was an incredible guide, and very nice to talk to and share his knowledge. Arctic Exposure did a great job with communications and logistics to make it a smooth workshop experience. Will definitely be joining a future workshop!

Skarpi is the best!!

I just want to say thank you for these well organized tours. Especially the stay at the cabin in Hornstrandir Nature Reserve was a great experience of its own. Skarpi helped me in taking pictures of the polar lights with a good foreground (which indeed makes the difference to the pictures I made in the year 2022). Concerning the foxes everybody had the chance to take great pictures. Thank you again!
