Itinerary

Popular day-trips include the Snæfellsnes Peninsula or Reykjanes Peninsula. For cancellation and refund policy for our workshops, please visit the Terms & Conditions page.

DAY 1

Arrival in Iceland and check into your hotel in Reykjavik. Check-in starts at 3 p.m. In the evening, we meet for a group dinner in Reykjavik, where we briefly go through the workshop itinerary, safety instructions, and some practical things before we start our adventure in Iceland. If you arrive early in town, you can photograph some of the attractions in the city of Reykjavik, such as Harpa concert hall, Hallgrimskirkja church, the Sun Voyager sculpture, or Perlan. You can also check out some culture, visit a museum, go out for lunch, or explore down town.

DAY 2, 3 & 4

We start early in the morning and travel from Reykjavik to the Snæfellsnes peninsula, where we'll spend three nights. The entire peninsula is a bird photographer's paradise. It is where 60 out of 77 of Iceland's bird species nest, and additional passage migrants stop on their route between Europe and Greenland or Canada. There are endless landscape photography options with many different seascapes, rock formations, glaciers, lava fields, and even whales. The Snaefellsjokull National Park is at the westernmost part of the peninsula and includes the mystical glacier Snæfellsjökull, as well as other unique sites such as Djúpalónssandur, Þúfubjarg, and various lighthouses and churches: Kirkjufell Mountain and waterfalls, Black Church at Budir and more.

DAY 5, 6 & 7

We travel to the Westfjords and stay in the area for three nights. We explore the coastline and lighthouses. We'll take a boat tour out to Grimsey Island, which is arguably the best location to photograph puffins in Iceland. Grimsey is one of Iceland’s largest bird cliffs, home to unfathomable numbers of birds. Safe from foxes, the birds are fearless and provide stunning photographic opportunities from close range. The puffins are remarkably tame and frequent the grassy, higher part of the cliffs.

DAY 8

After breakfast, we'll head south towards Reykholt, and we are in the heart of West Iceland, Borgarfjörður, known for Viking Sagas, great salmon rivers, and Langjökull glacier. Here, we photograph the Icelandic horse, the beautiful waterfall Hraunfossar, and Barnafossar.

DAY 9

We take the scenic route via Kaldidalur or Cold Valley, with great views of the glaciers Eiríkskjökull, Langjökull, and Geitlandsjökull. We'll make a stop at Þingvellir national Park and perhaps a couple of waterfalls en route. We end the day at a hotel in Reykjavik, where the workshop concludes. You will have the evening free to explore the capital, take a few photographs, shop, have dinner, or just prepare for your flight home and rest.

DAY 9

It's your departure day. Breakfast is included at your hotel, and check-out is at 11 a.m. You can schedule your flight whenever works best for you.If photographers would like to extend their stay in Iceland, arranging private day tours before or after the workshop is easy. Testimonials

This was an amazing experience! I cannot say enough great things about Arctic Exposure and Skarpi! He went out of his way to make sure everyone was cared for and happy. This is the first group tour I have taken and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was incredible and the accommodations were top drawer. If you are thinking about using Arctic Exposure, do it! You won’t be disappointed!
