South Iceland & Snæfellsnes Winter Workshop
A Winter Photography Workshop that focuses on the amazing winter landscape the South Coast and Snæfellsnes Peninsula has to offer and the Northern Lights. You will find many of the more known locations of Iceland in this part of the islands along with Ice Caves around the glacier in the South East. We will visit at least one such cave in the workshop.
Known for dramatic landscape, an abundance of beautiful seascapes and of course Mount Kirkjufell, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula offers photographers many beautiful locations to visit and plenty of foreground for amazing Northern lights photography. We will spend the first two days here covering the major sights and at least one sunset and possibly Northern Lights show at Mount Kirkjufell.
The South Coast of Iceland is the most visited location of Iceland. This makes our job as photography Workshop organiser more difficult but we do our utmost to stay away from the crowds when we possible. We have plenty of local connections and sights so we can take you off the radar but still photograph the amazing location. Ice Caves are on our itinerary and hopefully, we will be fortunate and see some Northern Lights over Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach.

ITINERARY AND LOCATIONS:
As always in Iceland, we will be flexible and adjusted to weather and aurora activity to make the most out of the tour.
You arrive in Iceland and check in your hotel in Reykjavik, which will already be reserved by your tour operator and included in the price. We meet at the centrally located hotel at 17.00 and go out for a dinner in Reykjavik where we briefly go through the tour itinerary, safety and some practical things before we start our adventure in Iceland. If you arrive early in town, you can photograph some of the attractions such as Harpa Concert Hall, Hallgrimskirkja, Sun Voyager or Perlan.
DAY 2 AND 3 – THINGVELLIR NATIONAL PARK AND VIK
We start early in the morning from the hotel in Reykjavik, and drive directly to our first shooting location in Thingvellir National Park and start our photography adventure. From Thingvellir we travel to the south coast at Vik. We will stay the next two nights in Vik area, which has many of the most iconic frozen waterfalls and dramatic seascapes in the country, such as Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss, Reynisdrangar and Dyrholaey. On day 3 we will drive up into the glaciers and visit some unique and remote locations off the beaten track.
DAY 4 AND 5 VATNAJOKULL NATIONAL PARK – GLACIER LAGOON, ICE BEACH AND ICE CAVES
After our breakfast at our hotel, we capture the sunrise on the famous Ice Beach on the south-east coastline. We’ll photograph the Glacier Lagoon area for the next two and a half day and have many great locations to choose from. We lodge close to the Glacier Lagoon (Jokulsarlon) to be able to be in locations at the best light, and when sky is clear and aurora is active we shoot the Northern Lights dancing over the lagoon. We will go into at least two ice ceves on the tour, the best available ice caves, deep under the Vatnajökull glacier, for tha ice cave trip we’ll provide all safety gear such as helmets and crampons. Never enter ice caves without an Icelandic guide and safety equipment.
DAY 6 – HÖFN – STOKKSNES, VESTRAHORN
The Horn area is below Vestrahorn, a 454-meter high mountain and an interesting geology site forming of unstratified plutonic rock, mostly gabbro but with some granophyre. East of the mountain is a strange-shaped outcrop called Brunnhorn that stretches out to sea. Vestrahorn is a very picturesque mountain with black sand dunes in the foreground and a shallow beach with reflections. In winter we can expect a spectacular light on the mountain.
DAY 7 – SKATFATELL AND VIK
We’ll pass through Skaftafell both on our way to south-east and on the way back. We’ll shoot some of the great landscape there at least for one sunset. All the Skaftafell area is surrounded with spectacular landscape such as the glaciers and highest mountains in Iceland, waterfalls such as Svartifoss (Black Falls) to name a few of the best locations.
DAY 8 AND 9 – SNÆFELLSNES PENINSULA
From the south coast of Iceland we travel up to Snæfellsnes peninsula for two days and two nights in this unique compact landscape peninsula. As always we’ll lodge very close to the shooting locations to maximize the photography in the best light we get. Mountain Kirkjufell is perhaps the most picturesque mountain in Iceland, and with a unique composition of flowing river and waterfall in foreground. Snæfellsnes has all the landscape options that photographers can dream of, such as glacier, rock formations for seascapes, mountains and waterfalls.
DAY 10 – SNÆFELLSNES BACK TO REYKJAVIK
After our breakfast and sunrise in Snæfellsnes, we travel back to Reykjavik. We will stop at some shooting locations on our way, and then have our last dinner of the tour together in Reykjavik.
DAY 11 – TRANSFER TO KEFLAVIK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
