Faroe Islands Photography Workshop
The Faroe Islands Photography Workshop opens the world of the forgotten Faroes. The Faroe Islands are just a short flight from Iceland, yet they’re way off the standard traveller’s radar. Adrift in the frothing swells of the North Atlantic, this mysterious 18-piece jigsaw puzzle of islands is at once ancient and very modern. In this workshop, we will focus on the landscape of the islands along with the magnificent Atlantic Puffin that lives all over the island.
On the Faroe Islands Photography Workshop, you are never more than 5km (3 miles) away from the ocean. The countryside is dominated by steep mountains, and there are about 80,000 sheep and some 2 million pairs of seabirds, including the largest colony of storm petrels in the world, puffins and gannets. The Faroe Islands are undeniably beautiful: green, rugged and wind-swept.

The Faroe Island Photography Workshop – Itinerary
As always, Arctic Exposures itineraries will be flexible and adjust to weather and conditions to make the most out of the tour.
Day 1 – Arrive in the Faroe Islands
Photographers arrive in the Faroe Islands on the first day (or before if they prefer). When you arrive at Vágar airport, we will have booked you a hotel room nearby the Airport, and at this hotel, the group will get together for the first meeting to go through the schedule for the upcoming days.
Day 2-4 – Faroe Islands Vágar
After breakfast, we start our tour. We will begin exploring the many locations Vágar and nearby Islands have to offer;
We will capture beautiful locations such as the famous Gásadalur, which is located on the edge of Mykinesfjørður, surrounded by the highest mountains on Vágar. There you will find Múlafoss waterfall that falls into the ocean. Close by is Lake Sorvagsvatn, often referred to as optical illusion lake. It is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands and where the waterfall Bøsdalafoss fallouts to the sea.
All around the Faroe Islands, you will find beautiful old fishing villages. We will stop at one them, the village of Bøur, from there you can capture the island of Tindhólmur as well take a walk around the town and photograph. Tindhólmur is one of the most photographed locations in the Faroe Islands. From Vágar island we also have connections to dramatic Mykines Island where we will visit if weather permits.
Day 5-7 – Faroes Island Streymoy & Eysturoy
After the first three days in Vágar, we will move to our next accommodation in a town called Gjógv. In this charismatic small town, we will stay for three nights and travel from to explore the neighbouring islands. A few notable locations we will visit are; Tórshavn is the capital of the Faroe Islands and has a beautiful old town and harbour. The Norse established their parliament on the Tinganes peninsula in Tórshavn in AD 850, and the Faroes argue it’s the oldest parliament in the world.
Kirkjubøur is the southernmost village on Streymoy, and the country’s most important historical site with the ruins of the Magnus Cathedral from around 1300, the Saint Olav’s Church from 12th century and the old farmhouse Kirkjubøargarður from 11th century. In 1832 a runestone was found near the Magnus Cathedral in Kirkjubøur. The stone which is referred to as the Kirkjubøur stone dates back to the Viking Ages.
Saksun is a village near the north-west coast and of the more picturesque locations in the Faroe Islands. The village has a church and a museum. The church was originally built in Tjørnuvík, but in 1858 it was disassembled, carried over the mountains and reassembled in Saksun. The Museum occupies a seventeenth-century farmhouse called Dúvugarður.
